When the Lighthouse Opens
Grammar in this story
Ahai and Xiaowen find an old postcard taken in front of the lighthouse.
The mail carrier says the retired keeper in the photo comes when the lighthouse opens.
When the sun comes out in the morning, they wait at the entrance.
When the wind rises at noon, they are still waiting.
When it rains in the afternoon, an elderly man in a raincoat also comes for shelter.
They eat lunchboxes together and wonder why the keeper has not come.
At dusk, the elderly man takes out a key and opens the lighthouse.
He says, “Every time I open the door, I first see who is willing to wait out the weather with me.”
It turns out the young man on the old postcard is him.
