The Typhoon Plant List
Grammar in this story
A typhoon is approaching, so the rooftop committee begins organizing the plant list.
If the wind grows stronger, they will move the tall potted plants into the stairwell.
If there is too much rain, they will put the water-sensitive ones under the eaves.
Every pot has its owner’s name beside it, except one small tree.
Everyone says it is not theirs, yet knows how much water it needs.
Someone knows it fears cold; someone else knows it likes the morning sun.
Mrs. Chen laughs and asks, “If nobody claims it, do we throw it away?”
Everyone immediately shakes their head.
In the end, they write on the list: “Owner: the whole building.”
If the typhoon comes, everyone will protect it together.
