The Almost-Finished Mural
Grammar in this story
The mural at the residential compound entrance has taken a whole week and is finally almost finished.
It shows the guard, delivery riders, elderly chess players, and children leaving school.
Everyone is preparing to take a photo when the artist suddenly puts down her brush.
She says, “Not yet. The most important person is about to arrive.”
Everyone waits a long time but sees nobody special.
It is almost dark, but the artist still does not continue painting.
Just then, a moving truck stops at the entrance and new neighbors get out.
The artist points to a blank space in the middle of the wall and says, “This is for them, and for everyone who comes later.”
The mural is not filled in, yet everyone feels it is truly complete.
