Topic, contrastive comment
Core idea
Chinese topic-comment sentences can put one item first to contrast it with another item or expectation.
The topic is what the sentence is about. The comment says what is true for that topic.
When to use it
Use contrastive topics when you want to say “as for this one...” and imply a different comment for another topic.
This is common in everyday answers, corrections, and comparisons.
Usage boundary
This is not a new particle or fixed phrase. It is a discourse use of topic-comment word order, so context matters.
Examples
咖啡我不喝,茶我喝。
Kāfēi wǒ bù hē, chá wǒ hē.
Coffee I do not drink; tea I do drink.
这本书我看过,那本还没。
Zhè běn shū wǒ kànguo, nà běn hái méi.
This book I have read; that one, not yet.
钱我有,时间没有。
