When it sounds natural
This pattern works well with actions like looking over, wiping, knocking, checking, or trying something briefly.
The object should be specific enough for the listener to know what is being handled.
Compare with ordinary reduplication
Verb reduplication can soften an action by itself. With 把, the sentence also foregrounds what happens to the object.
