The repeated first part creates the feeling of “as someone kept doing...” Then 就 introduces the change, discovery, or result.
When to use it
Use this pattern for natural narrative turns: walking and then getting lost, reading and then forgetting the time, chatting and then arriving somewhere.
It is not just repetition for emphasis. The sentence needs a second event that emerges during the ongoing action.
