一边…一边 links two actions that happen at the same time. Each 一边 introduces one side of the simultaneous action pair.
The two actions should be compatible in real life. This pattern is for doing both, not for a sequence.
Mini decision rule
If English could naturally say “while doing,” this Mandarin pattern may fit. If one action clearly happens after the other, use a sequence pattern instead.
