four-character expression
Core idea
Mandarin often uses compact four-character expressions as descriptive chunks.
At this level, many useful examples are repeated adjective or state patterns, such as 干干净净 or 高高兴兴.
Why they matter
These phrases can make descriptions feel more vivid, rhythmic, or complete. You will see them often in stories and everyday descriptions.
Usage boundary
Do not try to invent any four characters freely. Learn common patterns as chunks, then notice how they behave in sentences.
