Pattern
Comparison + verb + 得 + description
Key words
Core idea
Comparison sentences can include a degree complement after the verb. This combines two ideas: comparing two sides and describing the degree or result of an action.
The verb still needs its 得 complement. The comparison phrase appears inside that complement area.
Usage boundary
This page builds on basic degree complements and basic comparisons. If the sentence feels crowded, first identify the verb being described, then build the complement after 得.
Examples
他跑得比我快多了。
Tā pǎo de bǐ wǒ kuài duō le.
He runs much faster than I do.
她说得没有老师清楚。
Tā shuō de méiyǒu lǎoshī qīngchu.
She does not speak as clearly as the teacher.
我写得跟他一样慢。
Wǒ xiě de gēn tā yíyàng màn.
I write as slowly as he does.
Common mistakes
Avoid
他跑比我得快。
Use
他跑得比我快。
得 stays right after the verb; the comparison follows in the complement.
